Senator David Vitter (R-LA) Announces Run For Governor of Louisiana, Remember the "Vitter Amendment" he Wrote That Had No Basis in Reality

Senator David Vitter (R-LA) Getty Images explaining a situation he had with "Hookers." Photo by Getty Images.
Sen. David Vitter announced on Tuesday morning that he will run for governor of Louisiana in 2015.
PLEASE check out my blog post fully explaining why the "Vitter Amendment" had no basis in reality, because Congress and their Staffers GET EMPLOYER-PAID HEALTH INSURANCE! Their paid health insurance is considered part of their salary and the Office of Personal Management (OPM) simply would not of allowed Senator Chock Grassley's bill to force the Congress and staff to buy insurance through the Affordable Care Act exchanges. It's as simple as that. But to this day you can hear hear TeaPublicans say the President gave Congress a "exclusion" from the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare,) which just is not the facts.

http://medic3569.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-vitter-amendment-is-total-bs.html

"I believe that as our next governor I can have a bigger impact addressing the unique challenges and opportunities that we face in Louisiana," Vitter said in a Youtube video launching his gubernatorial run.
The conservative Republican said that while his "active campaign" won't start until next year, he has already laid the groundwork for it by holding hundreds of listening sessions across the state. He said if he becomes governor it will be his "last political job, elected or appointed. Period."  Read More from Politico

We have a tough fight in 2014 and one reason is because of the gerrymandering state legislators are doing and the Voter ID (suppression) laws that Governors have implemented in 34 states. We need to take back control of the State Legislatures and not allow people like Mr. Vitter to govern any state.

What is the Republicans/TeaPuplicans Plan for Jobs Since they are Blocking Every Jobs Bill the President Endorses?

Similar to Healthcare - We don't Have a Plan; But We'll Block Any Plan You Have For Jobs Mr. President

Bobblehead S. E. Cupp, on CNN's Crossfire this week, had Former Labor Secretary, (under President Clinton,) Robert Reich (who helped create a net 22 million job increase) and Governor Tim Pawlenty. and what she had was Republican talking points, typical of right-wing media and talking heads. She kept spewing prepared Republican/Teapublican talking points, not listening, or even hearing what her guests were saying. What is the Republican's plan for creating jobs? They don't know, but they know their willing to obstruct any ideas the President has, sound familiar? What's their plan for healthcare for 40 million Americans that didn't have it, and/or couldn't afford it? OH! That's right, they don't have one, but they spent taxpayer money to the tune of over $60M voting 48 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act.  Here's just a snippet from the conversation on CNN's Crossfire where Governor Pawlenty says what he thinks business is saying, and what Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich said to set him straight:

PAWLENTY: "Guess what? There's a consistent answer from those folks about what they want. And they basically say to government, do things to encourage me, not discourage me. Make the load lighter, not heavier. And that includes things like taxation, like energy policy, like health-care policy and more. But they're basically saying don't do things to make my life more difficult, more expensive, more bureaucratic, more inefficient."
CUTTER: "Well, Governor..."
REICH: "Actually, it's..."
CUTTER: "Go ahead."
REICH: "Stephanie, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but I just want to say that -- that I'm very proud to be part of an administration that presided over the creation of 22 million net new jobs. That was the Clinton administration."

What Does Raising the Minimum Wage Do? Help or Hurt Job Creation?

Republicans and Tea Party members say that government wants to force employers to raise wages, raise taxes on "top job creators," (which we absolutely know has been proven not to be true that the "trickle down theory" by cutting taxes on the rich creates jobs,) and force employers to cut-off hiring at 50 employees to avoid the Affordable Care Act mandates, is not a recipe for creating jobs. Robert Reich speaking on raising the minimum wage says: "Raising the minimum wage, we've been raising the minimum wage in this country since 1935. Raising the minimum wage is good for the country. It puts more money in the pockets of people. Sixty-five percent of Americans want to raise the minimum wage. Most minimum- wage workers these days are not teenagers. They are breadwinners. If you help them, you are helping the economy overall."
"And a lot of employers will benefit from a higher minimum wage. We know empirical studies show that. This is not a matter of government planning. This is a matter of doing what we have done in this country -- in fact, if we had a minimum wage today that was as high as it was in 1968, adjusted for inflation, it would be $10.40 an hour. And if you add in productivity improvements, minimum wage actually would be $15 an hour."

A large swath of economists agree, raising the minimum wage is a good idea.

In a letter released Tuesday, January 14, 2014 through the Economic Policy Institute, a left-leaning think tank, 75 economists, including seven Nobel Laureates, argue that the government should hike the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour by 2016 and then peg future increases to inflation. A proposal from Senate Democrats, backed by President Obama, to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour is currently stalled in Congress. Read More from The Huffington Post. Economist Joseph Stiglitz and Larry Summers, argue that the "weight" of the evidence indicates past minimum wage hikes haven’t hurt the job market.

"Research suggests that a minimum-wage increase could have a small stimulative effect on the economy as low-wage workers spend their additional earnings, raising demand and job growth, and providing some help on the jobs front."

Republicans Say President Holding Up  "All There Jobs Bills"

The problem with that statement is that they don't have ANY jobs bills. So how do they get around that? Call every bill a "Jobs Bill." On Speaker John Boehner's Blog page he says that the White House is "pivoting" back to jobs and the House doesn't have to pivot because they have always been about jobs. He offers a list of "Jobs Bills," the problem? He lists numerous bills, but in the description of the bills offers misleading or straight out false information. He lists bills that favor the oil & gas industry by more deregulation (remember, after 300,000 people in West Virginia had their drinking water contaminated by a Koch Brothers affiliated chemical company he said "there are plenty of regulations in effect.") and bills that help the ultra-rich with more tax relief, etc., but none of the bills actually create a significant number of jobs. Check the Speaker's page and then check the actual bills at www.GovTrack.us.

But for Boehner, the best course of action is to cut off those struggling most, while asking the Senate to pass the “jobs bills” already approved by the House.
What “jobs bills”? As it turns out, Boehner has decided that every time House Republicans pass a bill that advances House Republican priorities, the party gets to label that a “jobs bill.” The GOP approved more oil drilling? That’s a “jobs bill.” The GOP voted to take away health care benefits from millions of Americans? That’s a “jobs bill,” too. The GOP disapproves of clean-air regulations? “Jobs bill.” The GOP wants more “transparency” in federal spending? “Jobs bill.” Republicans cut food stamps? “Jobs bill.”
I’m not exaggerating in the slightest; this is all from the list of “jobs bills” the Speaker of the House has pulled together and presented to the public. How many actual jobs would be created if these bills became law? No one knows because Republicans never submitted them for independent economic scrutiny, but GOP leaders are confident the answer is, at a minimum, some.

What the Republicans "Say" and "Do" are Different, as Usual
Republicans came out this year saying they have a "Jobs Agenda," and it's not just the same old "cut taxes to the rich job creators" and "remove all those pesky regulations that tie the hands of industry."

Nationwide, many our lifeline systems are approaching a different kind of catastrophe. One trillion dollars is the price tag on the U.S. infrastructure deficit, an issue President Obama knows well.

“We must rebuild our infrastructure and find new and clean sources of energy,” Obama said.
Quietly and consistently, infrastructure is emerging as one of the three key elements of Obama’s clarion call to returning to the domestic agenda.

Second only to jobs—above even energy—infrastructure, that critical and unsexy topic has come to the fore of the president’s mind and message.

Back in June, 2011 The U.S. Conference of Mayors, put forward a resolution to Congress that the $126 billion dollars going annually to pay for America’s wars abroad be spent at home instead.

The mayors set an agenda that mirrored the presidents: jobs, sustainable energy, and rebuilding America—roads, dams, water and sewer systems, among others.

“That we would build bridges in Baghdad and Kandahar and not Baltimore and Kansas City, absolutely boggles the mind,” L.A.’s flamboyant and outspoken Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said. Read More from The Daily Beast June 23, 2011 article.

Michael Tomasky in an article The GOP's "Jobs" Hypocrisy for The Daily Beast on January 3, 2014 writes about a piece by Michael R. Strain of National Affairs "A Jobs Agenda for the Right" whereas Michael makes some suggestions to the Republicans. It includes, ready? wait for it, INFRASTRUCTURE! Where did we hear that before? One particular part of Michael's work is this:

"This employment crisis is one of the most important and immediate social and economic problems facing the country today, and none of our elected leaders can afford to ignore it. Yet both parties are more or less doing just that. The Democrats talk about jobs policies, but their approach to the problem — with its emphasis on massive short-term fiscal stimulus and inefficient public spending — has proven neither popular nor (at least in the form attempted at the beginning of the Obama years) up to the challenge. It consists of the timeworn economic mantras of the left and is not equipped to address the problems we now have.

Republicans are, if anything, worse off. They often refuse to even acknowledge the problem, or to acknowledge the fact that it requires ambitious policy solutions. They, too, mostly repeat familiar formulas from their party's glory days which offer proposals that do not seem well connected to today's economic realities. Some of their ideas — fostering a more stable business climate and financing lower tax rates by shrinking a few tax loopholes, for example — could help, but they are not nearly adequate for the challenge America confronts. To offer the public a plausible agenda for a true recovery of the labor market, Republicans will have to dig deeper."

He continued "Anyone who has driven on a highway in Missouri or has taken an escalator in a Washington, D.C., Metro station knows that the United States could use some infrastructure investment. And expanding public-transportation options from poor neighborhoods to commercial centers could increase economic mobility and the incomes of the poor — a goal conservatives should certainly support. Today's low interest rates only increase the desirability of a multi-year program of high-social-value infrastructure spending.

The 2009 stimulus bill failed to direct funds effectively to such projects, but that does not mean that infrastructure spending, if properly conceived and directed, cannot do a great deal of good. And, of course, to ensure that federal debt is on a stable trajectory, any large increase in spending should be coupled with restraints on the future path of middle-class entitlement spending and a reining in of tax expenditures.

Carefully targeted infrastructure spending should also be coupled with a more pro-growth monetary policy. Monetary policy surely offers the best way to boost aggregate demand in the short term. By keeping the federal funds rate at zero and pursuing its long-term asset purchase program (known as quantitative easing or QE), the Federal Reserve has done much to support the economy during the Great Recession. But growth is still slow and the labor market is still very weak. Is there more the Fed could do?"

Back to Michael Tomasky "UM, O.K. There are people who’ve been trying to do just that. And not only Barack Obama. John Kerry led this effort in the Senate, and he was joined by Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison (who’s since retired). Their attempts to fund a modest infrastructure bank were supported by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. But it could never get anywhere because of rock-solid GOP opposition. Does Strain not even know this? Or is he pretending it never existed so he doesn’t have to deal with the political reality of Republican obduracy?

I think, of course, it’s the latter, and there’s further evidence for my guess in the way Strain talks about recent history. The 2009 stimulus was not a failure in infrastructure terms at all (has he read Michael Grunwald?). But even if you believe it was an infrastructure failure, or have to say so for political reasons, should you not acknowledge in fairness that it was Democrats and liberals who wanted it to have more infrastructure spending, and that nearly 40 percent of bill took the form of tax cuts because that’s what Republicans demanded (before they decided en masse to vote against it anyway)?"

President Obama's Proposed Jobs Bills

First there's  The American Jobs Act which calls for:

1. TAX CUTS TO HELP AMERICA’S SMALL BUSINESSES HIRE AND GROW.

2. PUTTING WORKERS BACK ON THE JOB WHILE REBUILDING AND MODERNIZING
    AMERICA.

3. PATHWAYS BACK TO WORK FOR AMERICANS LOOKING FOR JOBS.

4. TAX RELIEF FOR EVERY AMERICAN WORKER AND FAMILY.

5. FULLY PAID FOR AS PART OF THE PRESIDENT’S LONG-TERM DEFICIT REDUCTION
    PLAN.

80% of our infrastructure is deemed "obsolete" or "in need of immediate repair." Infrastructure bills in the past have gone through the House and Senate with ease, but that's before the day after our current President's first inauguration where Senator Mitch McConnell laid out the 1st priority of the Republican Party, which was to "make the President a one-term President." That was their first priority, not the wars, not the great recession created by President George W. Bush, who came into office with a $500M surplus and left with a $10B deficit, with two unpaid wars going on, one of which President Bush out right lied about to get us into. Or the unpaid "Prescription Drug Bill" that cost us over $720B that they said would only cost us $320B and gave drug companies a windfall by not allowing Medicare and Medicaid to negoiate the prices of prescription drugs, not the 700,000 jobs per month being lost when President Obama took office, no, first priority was to make the President a one-term President. The Republican Party then started to have other problems, the ultra-rich backed Tea Party started to challenge Conservatives and blocked anything that didn't fit into their absurd agenda. The Republican Party became broken and produced the "Worse Productive Congress in the History of the United States," the 113th Congress. Obstruction was to put it lightly. Closing down the government to try to repeal The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare,) after already spending $59M to have 47 votes to repeal the law may have been the beginning of the fall of the Tea Party, but we'll just have to hope and see in the 2014 elections. House Speaker John Boehner finally stood up to some of the "groups" like Freedom Works, The Club for Growth, and Heritage Action, when the House passed the Ryan-Murray budget. But came right back and said there was no way they were going to raise the minimum wage, extend the Emergency Unemployment Compensation, and said, after Freedom Industries, a chemical company affiliated with the Koch Brothers, contaminated the drinking water for over 300,000 people in West Virginia, that "there are plenty of regulations in place."
We need jobs, not deregulation, not blocking of the Dodd-Frank Financial Reform bill, not Voter ID Laws, not blocking raising the Minimum Wage, not cutting Food Stamps by $40B, not easier permitting processes for drilling and Fracking, not a Keystone XL pipeline that will bring tar sands oil through our country only to go to a refinery in the Gulf owned by a Saudi Arabian oil company and Shell oil, to be exported to China and other nations, that will raise gas prices 25-40 a gallon here in the U.S., not stalling immigration legislation, not spending more than $70B of taxpayer money voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare,) not giving $154B in tax subsidies to corporations like we did last year, WE NEED JOBS!

Medicare Part D - Joe Scarborough Doesn't Remember "All These Problems"

Medicare Part D - It's Problems - It's Rollout Similarities to the Affordable Care Act

by Kaiser Family Foundation

It bothered my when Joe Scarborough said he didn't remember "all these problems" with the Prescription Drug Plan bill back when President George W. Bush and the Republicans pushed through what some call the "worst legislation passed since the 1960's. At about 6:20 AM  this morning on his show, Joe Scarborough said "the only thing I remember is that they (the Republicans) held the vote open for 3 weeks and then bribed Nick Smith for his vote. He should use his current health plan to look into what pharmaceuticals are available for a bad memory. I sent an e-mail off to the show immediately, here's a copy of the text:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"First let me say that I love Morning Joe and you all help me start my day, everyday. I've been watching for years and depend on the show to start my day and gather information before I work on my blog www.Medic3569.blogspot.com which I use to inform and motivate people to become well informed and especially to contact Congressmen/women and Senators.

At approximately 6:20 AM Joe Scarborough said he didn't remember "all these problems with Medicare Part D."  What I remember about the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act is that the vote was held open until like 3:00 AM while Republicans twisted arms of other Republicans to vote for the bill. The party threatened Republicans to not back them in their next election if they didn't vote for the bill. I remember that it took away the right to negotiate price (except for the Veterans Administration who was smart enough to stay out of it) and the price Medicare would pay for a common heart went from $280 annually to over $1200 annually.
On December 8, 2003 these provisions of the law passed the Congress by a narrow margin:
  • it provides a subsidy for large employers to discourage them from eliminating private prescription coverage to retired workers (a key AARP goal.)
  • it prohibits the Federal government from negotiating discounts with drug companies;
  • it prevents the government from establishing a formulary , though does not prevent private providers such as HMO's from doing so.
It's the second one I have a problem with, especially since the Republicans and George W. Bush offered no way whatsoever of paying for it!
Later, after the hugh windfall that drug companies enjoyed, I believe it was 60 Minutes who reported, 23-25 of the politicians that co-sponsored the bill had left their jobs in the Congress by either not running for re-election or, in at least one case, just resigned their position, and went to work for pharmaceutical companies at salaries well north of $1M a year.
Joe Scarborough doesn't remember any problems with the bill except for one Congressman that the Republicans were pressuring to change his vote, perhaps he should look into what prescriptions are available for senility."

Here are Some of the Problems Medicare Part D had on Rollout

For one thing, the Bush administration faced a difficult political battle to get the bill passed in 2003. I remember they had to hold the vote open until 3:00 AM while they twisted the Republicans arms to vote for the bill. Joe Scarborough said they actually held the vote open for three weeks, I don't know about that.

That damaged public opinion of the law, making it a challenge to educate 43 million seniors on its nuances.

Enrollment in the law was set to begin in late 2005. In April of that year, a Kaiser Family Foundation poll found that only 27 percent of respondents understood the law, while only 21 percent favored it. (In a comparable Kaiser poll in April 2013, 35 percent viewed the Affordable Care Act favorably and less than half felt they were well-informed of its details.)

The Medicare site, meant to help seniors pick benefit plans, was supposed to debut Oct. 13, 2005, but it didn’t go live until weeks later in November. Even then, "the tool itself appeared to be in need of fixing," the Washington Post reported at this time.

From PolitiFact - Did Medicare Part D have the same rollout problems as the Obamacare online marketplaces? :

"Visitors to the site could not access it for most of the first two hours. When it finally did come up around 5 p.m., it operated awfully slowly," the Post reported. (Sensing a pattern?)

Once seniors began to enroll, problems persisted. According to the report, the online tools had "accuracy problems," and local organizations designated with assisting seniors "reported problems getting necessary and accurate information." Call centers provided by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services underestimated "the needed capacity to ensure that reliable answers could be provided" and "service representatives were not knowledgeable or failed to provide accurate information."

The Georgetown experts anticipated similar hiccups with the Affordable Care Act, noting that the country’s experience with Medicare Part D suggested "the experience will be far from perfect" and "problems were not always addressed as quickly or as thoroughly as critics would have liked, but fixes were usually found."
These days, nine in 10 seniors who utilize the program report they are satisfied with it.
"There’s really a striking amount of similarity even though this time it’s a far larger and daunting task. It’s a fair comparison," said Jack Hoadley at the Georgetown University's Health Policy Institute and one of the authors of the study. "Once something works its way through the problems, you forget the problems."

Approximately twp weeks before the bill passed and the Bush administration was saying the law would cost about $100M, but it was revealed that the plan would cost at least $500M, it turned out to cost much, much, more.

In a story by Nick Gillespie at Reason.com on November 19, 2013:

According to the latest actuaries’ report, Medicare Part D will cost taxpayers - beneficiaries pay virtually nothing -    Part D will cost taxpayers — beneficiaries pay virtually nothing — $62 billion this year. This figure is expected to rise sharply in coming years to $150 billion in 2019. By 2030, Part D alone will cost taxpayers 1 percent of GDP. In present value terms, Medicare Part D adds almost $16 trillion to our national indebtedness. (That's how much would need to be in a trust fund today to pay all the benefits that have been promised over and above the trivial premiums paid by beneficiaries.) That is why former U.S. Comptroller David Walker has called the unfunded prescription drug benefit "the most fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation since the 1960's."  Read more at Reason.com

Where Does The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) Go From Here?

After spending more than $60M on 46 votes to repeal Obamacare the Republicans still have never offered any other plan to help insure the 40 million Americans who didn't have, and couldn't afford health insurance. Mitt Romney, the Republican, who when he was Governor of Massachusetts passed the health law that Obamacare is designed after. They would like to forget how much insurance premiums were rising and that since the Affordable Care Act was signed into law that the rate of increases has been reduced. The Republicans complain about "millions of policies being cancelled" but choose to not respond to where they were when millions of people who paid health insurance premiums for years had their policies cancelled once they became ill. The TeaPublican Republicans have no response about positive things that the Affordable Care Act have done like; allowing children to stay on their parents policies until the age of 26; or that insurance companies now have to spend at least 80% of the money they collect from premiums on the policy holders instead of giving themselves hugh salaries and bonuses; or how 40 million Americans who only had emergency rooms to use as their only access to healthcare, the most expensive way to pay for someone's healthcare will now have healthcare plans and preventive medicine. What  we all need to do is work to fix the problems with The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as they arise and get everyone affordable healthcare.

THE DEFECTORS of HR 3350, Republicans concerned over Health Insurance Plans being Cancelled, Really?!

Did Your Congressman Defect? What Will Your Senators Do?

I thank Mike Allen of  Politico for listing THE DEFECTORS - of HR 3350 "Thirty-nine House Democrats, many from competitive districts, joined Republicans in voting for the 'Keep Your Health Plan' act sponsored by Energy and Commerce chairman Fred Upton [passed 261-157, over Obama veto threat ] ... Ron Barber (Ariz.), John Barrow (Ga.), Ami Bera (Calif.), Tim Bishop (N.Y.), Bruce Braley (Iowa), Julia Brownley (Calif.), Cheri Bustos (Ill.), Jim Costa (Calif.), Peter DeFazio (Ore.), Suzan DelBene (Wash.), Tammy Duckworth (Ill.), Bill Enyart (Ill.), Elizabeth Esty (Conn.), Bill Foster (Ill.), Pete Gallego (Texas), John Garamendi (Calif.), Joe Garcia (Fla.), Ron Kind (Wis.), Ann McLane Kuster (N.H.), Dave Loebsack (Iowa)., Dan Maffei (N.Y.), Sean Patrick Maloney (N.Y.), Jim Matheson (Utah), Mike McIntyre (N.C.), Jerry McNerney (Calif.), Patrick Murphy (FL), Rick Nolan (Minn.), Bill Owens (N.Y.), Gary Peters (Mich.), Scott Peters (Calif.), Collin Peterson (Minn.), Nick Rahall (W. Va.), Raul Ruiz (Calif.), Brad Schneider (Ill.), Kurt Schrader (Ore.), Carol Shea-Porter (N.H.), Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.), Filemon Vela (Texas), Tim Walz (Minn.)."

I was extremely disappointed to see my Congressman's name as one of the defectors. I have sent a letter to my Congressman explaining my disappointment and asking for his view. I also sent the letter to my Senators asking what their intentions are once the bill gets to the Senate. Letter sent to Congressman Bishop and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand

"Why Republicans Suddenly Care About Cancelled Health Policies"

"Why Republicans Suddenly Care About Cancelled Health Policies" Nation of Change Article reminds us that until insurance cancellations became a political embarrassment for President Barack Obama, the usual right-wing reaction was silence. (Except for that awkward and revealing outburst during the 2012 Republican debates when a live audience howled its approval for the "let him die" plan.) What is the Republicans plan? No one did nothing for decades about the healthcare crisis. What do the Republicans have to help the 40 million people on this country who couldn't afford healthcare. And many people seem to forget how much the cost of health insurance was going up every year before the Affordable Care Act slowed the increases in the cost of insurance. The fact that insurance companies will need to spend 85% of the money they receive from premiums on actual benefits for the policy holders caused people to get refund checks from insurance companies, many of those people probably didn't realize why they got those checks. People who are not losing their policies because they got sick should know that they only still have their policy because of the affordable Care Act. And those people getting cancellation letters should look at the policies they had and realize just what they covered, and the fact that they would have been cancelled the minute they got sick anyway, only they would of continued to pay the premiums as long as they stayed healthy and didn't make claims on the policy.

Disapprove: 74%

I'd like to meet the 17% of Americans who approve paying Congressmen $170,000/yr to do little more than obstruct almost every bit of legislation including Jobs, Infrastructure, Education, Immigration, or anything that would help the country and the American people.

CNN/ORC Poll: Thoughts on Congress:
Approve: 10%
Disapprove: 87%

NBC/Kaiser Family Foundation Poll: Enthusiastic about Affordable Care Act (Obamacare):
Democrats: 44%
Independents: 18%
Republicans 5%

The Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Exchanges ARE OPEN! but the U. S. Government has been SHUT DOWN by the Republican Party. Don't believe any lies about who is at fault for the government shutting down. All that had to be done to avoid the government shutting down is that a clean bill for a Continuing Resolution (CR) had to be passed. Passing a CR has always been done and is normal, to allow the country to have money to continue operation the government, EXCEPT now because the Republicans decided they wanted to hold the country hostage by attaching a provision to defund the Affordable Care Act as part of passing a continuing resolution. That's it! plain and simple. It wasn't enough that the House Republicans spent taxpayer money voting to repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) law more than 40 times, knowing that it would not happen, now they have shut down the government in another attempt to defund a law that has been a law for three years. The "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was passed by both the House and the Senate, signed by the President, and upheld as being constitutional by the U. S. Supreme Court. This was all done in 2010. Today the health exchanges for people to sign up for healthcare open, even though the government is shut down. Yes, the 30 million Americans who could not afford healthcare insurance can sign up today to get affordable healthcare.

Senate Debating Obamacare - Tell Them to Stop the Politics and Obey the Law

Senate Debating Obamacare - Tell Them to Stop the Politics and Obey the Law

If you want to know exactly what The Affordable Care Act will do for you, and how it will protect you,  get the facts right here https://www.healthcare.gov/how-does-the-health-care-law-protect-me/ .

How Does The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) Help?

Pre-existing Conditions and "Lifetime Maximums"

Millions of Americans are already had their lives saved or greatly improved by having health insurance where they would not have if The Affordable Care Act had not been made law and implemented. Insurance companies were canceling people's policies, even though they paid premiums for years and years, because they became sick, claiming pre-existing conditions. Others had become sick and policies cancelled because the insurance said they reached a maximum benefit. Many Americans paid, or their employers paid, insurance premiums for tens of years only to be dropped when they became sick. This cost many their homes and their lifestyles. The Affordable Care Act stopped insurance companies from not giving health insurance policies to people with pre-existing conditions, and from dropping them using pre-existing conditions as a reason. It stopped insurance companies from having "Lifetime Maximums" which stopped insurance companies from dropping people after they became sick.

Children Remain on Parents Insurance Policy Until the Age of 26

The Affordable Care Act made it so that parents could keep their children on their health insurance policies until the age of 26. This immediately insured millions of young people who did not have insurance because they reached the age of 18 or 19 years of age.

Made the Insurance Companies Spend 85% of Premiums Collected on Actual Patient Benefits Instead of Keeping Millions in Profits and Giving Million Dollar Bonuses and Salaries

Many people received refunds because of this part of the law. It forced the insurance companies from taking more and more of the money collected from premiums and not spending it on patient benefits.

Lower Cost Coverage for All and Insures 30 Million People Who Couldn't Afford Any Health Insurance

Many Governors, Congressmen, and Senators, not only refused to obey the law but in fact, have done everything they could to block the law from being implemented.

In Nashville, Tennessee, Gov. Bill Haslam, a Republican, instead of expanding Medicaid and forming an insurance exchange they set up a lottery, look at this article, it's disgraceful. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/25/us/tennessee-holds-health-care-lottery-for-the-poor.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1&

In Florida Governor Rick Scott passes law that will force health insurance premiums up, and passes another law forcing insurance companies to lie, yes, forces them to lie, and blame the increased premiums on Obamacare. This would be unbelievable if it didn't actually happen!

First do no harm. That's a tenet of medical ethics that future doctors worldwide are taught in medical school.
If only the people we elect to represent us were required to take such an oath when they're sworn into office.
Because they aren't, folks in Florida are facing having to pay far more for health insurance over the next two years than necessary. And health insurance executives will be laughing all the way to the bank.
Florida state lawmakers, in their ongoing efforts to block the implementation of Obamacare in the Sunshine State, recently passed a law that will allow health insurance companies to gouge Floridians more than any corporate boss dreamed was possible.
And if that weren't bad enough, insurers will actually be required by law to mislead their Florida customers about why they're hiking their premiums. Read the entire article here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/wendell-potter/florida-insurers-are-now_b_3785206.html .

These kinds of things are happening wherever Republicans control the states. Then the Congressmen, Senators and Governors, make speeches saying that "Obamacare is making health insurance premiums rise." It is a very sad state of affairs that the very people that were elected to office to work for the American people are actually doing only what is in their best interests and don't care one bit what is best for the very people that elected in the first place. Why? Because the 1% of people in this country that have 95% of the wealth spend billions of dollars to lie to the American people and mislead them. They spend this money to get people elected and them shape laws that will benefit them. The politicians, in many cases are afraid to go against them because they know they will probably be voted out of office if they don't do what the wealthy, greedy, extreme obstructionists want.

We need to take back our country from the 1% of people that hold 95% of the wealth on this country. Now is the time to do this. I implore every American to contact their Senators right now, there debating the bill that the House of Representatives sent to them. The bill allows a continuing resolution (CR) so the government won't shut on October 1, 2013 but defunds Obamacare. Look at the link at the beginning of this articles which clearly explains what The Affordable Care Act will do. Click the other links to see the truth about what politicians are doing to mislead the America people because of the pressure their under from The Tea Party Obstructionists, The Koch Brothers, Karl Rove (Crossroads) and the other greedy rich people. Use this link to find out who your Senators are and/or get their phone number and call them right NOW! Tell them to vote for YOU! Tell them to pass the Continuing Resolution WITHOUT defunding Obamacare!

CALL YOUR SENATORS RIGHT NOW! TELL THEM YOU WANT THEM TO PASS A CONTINUING RESOLUTION WITH OBAMACARE FUNDED!

33 States are making the Federal Government Set Up Their Exchanges

It disturbs me that 33 states are making the Federal Government set up the exchanges in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Congressman were paid $29,000 for working 9 nines in August, they receive a "Golden" healthcare plan for LIFE once elected, and spend most of their time raising money and satisfying their base. When their constituents let them know that as much as 95% of them want to require background checks for purchasing a gun, they vote against them. Now, with their given healthcare plans, for life, they want to deny 30 million Americans without affordable healthcare to go to the emergency room if they need care, the most expensive way to provide healthcare. What I find hard to believe is that people vote these useless, lying, greedy, politicians into office. WAKE UP AMERICA! Read the facts about states that have already implemented the law.

On September 5, 2013 the New England Journal of Medicine posted an article: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1308032?query=TOC#t=comments you might want to read to get real facts about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The GOP leadership is still debating how to handle the pressure from conservatives for a vote on the CR to cut off all funding for health care reform.

The Obstructionist Tea Party is still pushing for shutdown of the government unless the ACA is completely defunded. Only 16 states and D.C. are going to run state based exchanges. The exchanges open October 1, 2013 with coverage to begin as early as January 1, 2014. The obstructionist continue the misinformation campaign to confuse the public as to what the Affordable Care Act does. They have a focus on young people to discourage signing up. The more young people that sign up, the lower the costs will be because it spreads the risk for insurance companies as they are healthier. It is advantageous for young people to sign up because studies show that they will see a doctor 2.7 times a year and for those visits, and any labs or x-rays will bring the cost to more than what a plan will cost.

Some technical glitches exist including how medical charges and deductibles are listed, industry officials say. Health insurers planning to sell policies say they expect the glitches to be fixed by the October 1, 2013 commencement of signing up. Huffington Post had an article recently posted on this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/05/obamacare-health-insurance_n_3870784.html

How Far Can People Be Pushed Before They Push Back?

How Far Can People Be Pushed Before
They Push Back? Volume 1

(The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act)

When People Stand Together and Actually DO What They Can DO We Are HEARD!

Anytime we can get people to stand together and act together we gain strength, this is why I've created this blog, and a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stop-the-Obstructionist-Tea-Party/1404191656471075 . I get frustrated when I see Tea Party members, and other Conservatives, saying absurd things that are totally untrue and outright lies. Then people make comments, act out at town hall meetings, and appear elsewhere in the media, because they actually BELIEVE the misinformation and outright lies that these obstructionists spew out. Politicians put this garbage out, not because they believe it, but because they're only worried about their reelection, and people buy it!

I saw a post on Facebook by Robert Reich, author of "Beyond Outrage - What has gone wrong with our Economy and our Democracy, and how to Fix it." It provoked many comments and emotions among people. I thought I would share the link to that post because it inspired me to post another piece to try to motivate people to speak up and get involved, which is the mission of this blog.

Robert Reich's Facebook page address is: https://www.facebook.com/RBReich?hc_location=stream. This link brings you to his Facebook page, on it is a post he made on August 25, 2013. You can identify the post as it begins with "A few days ago I had breakfast with a man who had been one of my mentors in college,".
I encourage you to read it, comment, and come back to this blog and comment on this article so I can hear what you think.

People are being pushed further than ever before on many fronts. Inequality of Opportunity, Income inequality, we are being told that getting health insurance for 30 million uninsured people is not what we want, we are having to deal with a minimum wage that full-time workers, working a full 40 hours a week are living below the poverty level, we are told that if a women wants to have an abortion that she must consent to a trans-vaginal ultrasound that has not be deemed medically necessary by a doctor, (isn't that assault?,) we are having to deal with numerous Voter ID laws that clearly discriminate against the poor and the minorities, we are told that no environmental concerns exist with fracking, pipelines, and deregulation of industries, we are told that the deregulation of the financial industry didn't cause the near depression and wipe out people's 401k's and net worth, and much more rhetoric that is simply NOT TRUE!. ENOUGH!

People need to speak up! Many people say "What can I do? Plenty. History shows that when people stand together and speak out by flooding the offices of politicians with enough calls, e-mails and other personal contact, that we can pressure them to do the right thing. But we must flood them with contact. We must let them know, that we know, what they are doing. There are links on this blog page for people to find out who there representatives are, how to contact them, and to see how their Representatives are voting on bills. . If you want to get involved and don't know who your Congressmen, Senators, and other Representatives are, please use the links on this page to find out who they are, and how to contact them. Do it now! It's as simple as putting in your zip code, and for your local politicians, your address. We can make a difference! Speak to your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and encourage them to seek out various sources for news and information. The internet is a useful tool but people need to be aware that anyone can write anything they want on the internet, so they have to look at numerous sources, and respected sources. People should visit fact-checking organizations; here are a couple sites http://www.factcheck.org/http://www.politifact.com/http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checkerhttp://techcrunch.com/2013/01/29/realtime-political-fact-checking-becomes-a-reality-with-wapos-truth-teller/ ,  and not accept when people in the conservative party say "we will not let fact-checking get in the way of our agenda"

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Volume 1 emphasis)

Why aren't people telling their Governors, Congressman, and Senators that it is NOT O.K. to do NOTHING! Elected officials get a golden healthcare plan, for life, and turn right around and vote 40 times to repeal Obamacare which will help 30 million uninsured Americans get health insurance. Governors in many states refuse to implement "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act", a LAW, not a bill, (which many conservatives insist on still calling it.) They refuse to set up insurance exchanges so people can sign up on October 1, 2013. In lieu of setting up exchanges they must come up with alternatives. One state decided that a viable alternative was to have a lottery where only 2500 people would "win" an opportunity to get health insurance. The problem? there were numerous, 1) there are 3 million people uninsured in that state, 2) everyone had to call within the same 2-3 hour window and 3) it was announced on the news that the phone lines were closed, before they ever actually opened. One woman that was in the hospital for surgery, she was under anesthesia and couldn't call. She was told that she had the opportunity just as everyone else in the state did and she was out of luck. One person who "won" the lottery actually didn't get health insurance but did get a 19 page application that a lawyer for the news agency reporting on this lottery said "was confusing and it was not probable that citizens could possibly complete accurately."

This is where states stood as of June 13, 2013:

and this site tracks executive and legislative action taken to achieve—or totally rule out—expansion in each state. http://www.advisory.com/Daily-Briefing/Resources/Primers/MedicaidMap

Please get involved, be heard. Tell the Congress that it is not O.K. for them to make a salary of $29,000 for 9 days work in all of August when they have done nothing to help Americans yet voted 40 times to repeal "The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act!"

Florida Insurers Are Now Free to Screw Consumers and Must, By Law, Blame Obamacare

Florida Insurers Are Now Free to Screw Consumers and Must, By Law, Blame Obamacare

Unfortunately Floridians can't be protected from their own Governor Rick Scott. He refused money to implement the Affordable Care Act because he was sure the Republican US Supreme Court would defeat it. When they didn't he did something even worse.

In an August 24, 2013 Huffington Posts The Blog article by Wendell Potter, Author, consultant; columnist at Center for Public Integrity and healthinsurance.org, http://www.huffingtonpost.com/wendell-potter/florida-insurers-are-now_b_3785206.html writes that the Governor signed into law a bill (SB 1842) that will cause Floridians to pay much higher premiums for health insurance. Last month, Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty's office said insurance premiums for individuals in Florida would be significantly higher than they are now. And if that weren't bad enough, insurers will actually be required by law to mislead their Florida customers about why they're hiking their premiums. That's right, insurers will, by law have to mislead their customers.

As Florida CHAIN, a state advocacy group, pointed out when Scott signed SB 1842, the law not only blocks McCarty's office from protecting consumers, a provision in the law actually requires insurers to send deceptive and misleading notices about rate increases to consumers -- and to blame Obamacare for them.

"The only 'public education' of any sort authorized by the Legislature related to the ACA (Affordable Care Act) is a requirement ... that insurers send extremely biased and incomplete notices this fall about the ACA and its effect on policyholders' rates," Florida CHAIN said in a statement.

This is exactly the kind of information that must be spread. This is why I started this blog http://www.Medic3569.blogspot.com and my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Stop-the-Obstructionist-Tea-Party/1404191656471075 . People must be made aware what is really going on when stuff like this happens. Whether it be a Governor, Congressman, Senator, or even local politician, people MUST get the facts so they can go to the polls and FIRE  the people who are doing them harm. Maybe we should make all politicians state in their oath, when they take office, the part of the Hippocratic oath that doctors take, "DO NO HARM."

Conservatives Bent on Talking Young People (18-34) Out of Signing Up For Health Insurance Through the Exchanges in October.

Conservatives Bent on Talking Young People (18-34) Out of Signing Up For Health Insurance Through the Exchanges in October.

I received an e-mail from HuffPost Hill on August 16, 2013 which mentioned a publication (#652) http://www.nationalcenter.org/NPA652.html  from National Policy Analysis, which is a publication of The National Center for Public Policy Research. The paragraph in the e-mail I was immediately drawn to had a heading of "A SHINING MOMENT IN THE CAMPAIGN TO RESCUE AMERICA FROM OBAMACARE" which stated that  a conservative think tank said "Young people would save a lot of money by not buying health insurance through Obamacare exchanges this fall," because premiums are more expensive than the new tax penalties for not signing up.

CBS News reports that for the health care law to work, 2.7 million people known as “young invincibles” – young adults between the ages of 18 and 35 – need to enroll. What is so bad about 2.7 million young invincibles signing up for health insurance through the exchanges? The National Policy Analysis publication by David Hogberg, Ph.D. shows this example:

Haley Townsend is a pleasant 22-year-old woman working at a shop in Washington, D.C.'s Union Station. Like many her age, she is uninsured.

While she sees some value in insurance, she claims she doesn't need it right now.

"Overall, I'm pretty healthy," she said. "The only thing I need to see the doctor about are the glasses I wear."

Haley currently earns about $18,100 annually. She's also going through divorce proceedings that have put her into considerable debt.

"Right now, a lot of my paycheck goes toward paying that off," she said. Thus, financially she has little room for error and no room to pick up a major new expense like health insurance. Yet due to ObamaCare, in 2014 Haley is expected to purchase health insurance through the Washington D.C. "exchange"—known as the Health Benefit Exchange Authority—or pay a fine of $95.

If Haley buys health insurance through Washington D.C.'s exchange, she'll be eligible for a subsidy of about $1,329 under ObamaCare to help her pay for insurance. If she puts that toward the lowest-cost Bronze plan on the exchange, about $1,541, then she'll only have to pay about $212 out-of-pocket for health insurance.

That may not seem like much, but for Haley that $212 represents about 14 percent of one of her monthly paychecks before taxes. If she instead pays the $95 fine, then she'll save $117. "I could easily use that money for groceries or transportation," she said.

Let's look this example and how it really works out. The publication says that 18-34 year old people have an average of 2.7 physician visits per year, well, last time I checked, a single office visit to a doctor's office costs $100 for an uninsured person. Does Haley really have a savings of $117? If an 18-34 year old experiences even a minor illness, or injury, how much will it cost them? What with labs, x-rays or whatever they may require for a simple virus or fall, a single incident could cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

David Hogberg says that his study finds that over 3.7 million single individuals aged 18-34 without children will save at least $500 by declining insurance and paying the fine in 2014. Over 3 million individuals will save at least $1,000. I certainly question the data in this study, do you?

The study then goes on to show how their "subsidy calculators" come up with the figures of over 3.7 million single individuals aged 18-34 without children will save at least $500 by declining insurance and paying the fine in 2014. Over 3 million individuals will save at least $1,000. No where does it mention that a single illness or injury (remembering that the study itself does admit the 18-34 year old people average 2.7 doctor visits per year) will cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars for the uninsured.

All the while if the "young invincibles" do sign up with the exchanges we will lower healthcare costs overall. We will have 30 million people who can't afford health insurance with health plans which will significantly lower costs by not having people use emergency rooms as their primary care physician, and receive preventive medicine which everybody, even the insurance companies know is cheaper in the long run.

Let's work at getting our representatives in congress and the senate to start looking out for us. Let's explain to every 18-34 year old why signing up for the exchanges this October is the best thing for them and all of America! Tell your representatives you don't pay them $174,000/yr and more to vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act (a law) 40 times. Are the republicans afraid that a healthcare bill that was enacted by a Republican Governor, upheld by a Republican Supreme Court, is saving Republican lives?

WLOS-TV: Grieving mother asks why Patrick McHenry would repeal Obamacare

WLOS-TV: Grieving mother asks why Patrick McHenry would repeal Obamacare

This is only one story that has been shared. There are countless, and there will be millions more, on how the "Affordable Care Act" LAW (not "bill" as Republicans still insist on calling it even after it was passed by both houses and signed into by the President, and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court) will, can, and is, helping Americans all over the country. How do Governors, Congressman, Senators, who only care about getting reelected, convince the people their SUPPOSED to be representing that they are better off with NO health insurance rather than health insurance that is FREE! Oh! That's right, they have figured out that they can't convince the people of that! So now they are refusing to implement the law by setting up exchanges so come October 1, 2013 people can start to register for their health insurance to take effect January 1, 2014. They are also trying to defend the law even if they have to shut down the government! Even people in their own party recognize this as being ABSURD! Funny, if we ignore the laws we can pay a fine or go to jail, but not the politicians that are getting richer by the day!

PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO FROM YOUTUBE FROM THE GRIEVING MOTHER.
